Can Ardroid replace Windows in the near future?

For PCs, software programming/firmware software vendors offer versions for Windows, macOS and Linux. So the closest thing that could replace Windows could be Linux.

I hope not, as it is with chromebooks, etc. for simple things it's fine.

Android runs on Linux, which is fine, but it bases its environment basically on a mix of Java, XML and other technologies that allow it to be cross-platform. That's ideal on tablets and phones but not as good as on computers where the power requirements are higher and it's much more interesting to program in languages closer to the processor.
