Problems installing Android Studio

I downloaded and installed Android Studio. When I run it, it opens an initial configuration window where I select the theme and the program warns that it will download the android SDK and a support library. After a few minutes of download an error occurs and a warning appears saying that I do not have the android SDK and the support library installed. I'm using Windows 8.1. Has anyone experienced this and knows a solution? Thanks!
