How to use postgresql

I see the only hosting sites with mysql and to use postgresql only by VPS, can someone explain me this better? How do I integrate my postgre bank on my site with VPS? Why do you have to have VPS? to do this and good for my site? type mysql ja ta in the control panel already the postgre has to have the collaboration of vps this makes my site get faster reading more?
