Linux Crontab doubts

When I type crontab-l I see the schedules When I type crontab-and I can edit the schedules

What happens if I just type crontab?

According to this link and tested on ubuntu

The command does nothing, however, if you end with Ctrl + D it deletes the current cron file if you close with Ctrl + C it ends and nothing happens.
