Problems with sonar module HCSR04

I'm having problems with the arduino sonar module. I am using the NewPing library to use it, and I have already configured the module in the protoboard with all the connections. But when I open the serial monitor, where it should show almost accurate distances, they return the actual distance by oscillating with 0. How to solve this?
