How to back up edited files

I find the vs-code fantastic, but I have not found how to make a backup file of the file I'm editing, for example in notepad ++ (simple editor) every time we save our file it saves another with the same name and extension .BAK besides that it can be configured to write to each save a file with a certain name, thus we have several copies of the same file. Is it possible to do this with VS-CODE?
