C # compiler does not update

I'm starting my studies in C #, I can not use visual studio because of the lag of my pc, but when I install the latest version of the SDK the C # compiler still shows in the cmd that supports up to version 5 of the language, Currently we are at 7, I have updated sdk, I uninstalled and installed again and still can not, how to proceed?
