I believe that your problem occurs in the limitation of access to data, one that the service is 3G but does not always work with such technology, because the resources in Brazil are still limited, requiring 2 EDGE, for example.
Of course, a 3G connection when idle, your signal will turn off to conserve data consumption.
One solution is to keep the active consumption (via pings for example), but I do not think it's a viable alternative, because you'll consume that connection's bandwidth if any).
Another solution is to ask the user (s) of your system to reconnect / re-connect.
