How to maintain systems with gettext?

I developed a system using the php-gettext library and following that tutorial .

Everything worked normally and the language exchange is ok, but this system will change over time and new strings will emerge as well as others will exit the system.

How do I change the main .pot file, so I do not miss the existing translations in .po files?

I solved the problem by generating the file .pot the same way I did when I created it. Then I opened the file " .po " (with the translations) in PoEdit and I used the Catálogo > "Atualizar do Arquivo POT menu.

This function keeps the fields translated.
