Schedule email sending after querying transaction status

I am creating a page that has a payment module, but when a user makes a payment soon after the transaction is approved, he receives an email notifying him that his transaction was accepted or not, but in some cases the transaction takes a time to be processed, how do I get the system to check the payment status and send an email to the user even though he is not on the page.
