VPS for Magento What do I need to know?

1

I've been using only shared servers with the Opencart platform for years, but it was kind of hard for me to create a store in Magento, but I read that it might be slow and not good for shared hosting so I would have to go to one VPS. I would like to know if it will even be necessary to have a VPS and if so, what should I learn and where?

I've been searching and from now on I apologize for my ignorance but I've been watching the digitalocean vps and it has this functionality > link would it be easier for a novice user like me to install Ubuntu or CentOS, LAMP and Magento on VPS, is it enough? What more can I need? I also saw the serverpilot.io panel that I think would make things a bit easier and by what they say installs a firewall, will it be safe enough?

I'm not experienced in VPS, but I'm willing to learn what it takes. I hope I have been clear in my questions.

Thank you in advance for your help!

VPS or Cloud Server are the best solutions for using Magento in your projects. The size of the memory and processor depends very much on how many shops and how many daily accesses the server will have. You may have multiple stores and thousands of hits, however you will need more processor, ram memory, disk space and internet bandwidth. If it's just a store, a 512Mb digital ocean cloud might be enough.

Regarding the operating system, I recommend Ubuntu which is better for beginners than CentOS. You will need to know about Linux commands, and how to install LAMP. And, not only that, you will probably need to install PHP modules, which in Ubuntu is extremely easy.

ServerPilot can be a viable and secure solution for your environment. Remembering that the main security problem of these portals and online stores today is the use of shared server (hosting), as it opens vulnerabilities for your applications, so a VPS or Cloud server are safer solutions. If you care about security, remember to always use the latest versions of the software (Magento, Lamp, PHP, etc.).

To install, considering that you will use the latest version, follow the installation documentation:

Magento 2.0 Installation
