Packet traffic on the network

1

A long time ago, I became aware of a technique that basically all the data that is sent or received by the router is "duplicate" and forwarded to a specific address and the original sender / recipient address obvious.
Obviously this causes an overhead at that particular address and this is used by malicious people to access the data but also purposely to check the integrity of the packets.
My question is: What is the name of this "technique"?

Perhaps the "man-in-the-middle" technique is what you are looking for, since there is a "pivot sniffer" between the sender and the packet recipient, where this "pivot" is responsible for receiving the packet sent , do whatever it takes with it and send it to the destination.
