Officially each subdomain is a different site. In practice it is not so simple. If you are penalized for blackhat in a subdomain it is unlikely that the main domain will be penalized either, but if the main site is penalized the subdomain fall is almost certain.
The same applies to domain authority. If globo.com launches a new project asdfg.globo.com Google will see this new site more optimistic than if it were a newly registered domain asdfg.com
