I want to capture, with PHP, the name of the author, which in this case is in the node author 0 name $t .

If you have the string stored already in a variable, just use PHP's json_decode function .

This function will convert a string from JSON to array .

Getting that way then

$parseObj = json_decode($json); //Tipo objeto
$parseArray = json_decode($json, true); //Tipo Array

echo $parseObj->entry->author[0]->name->{'$t'}; //Pijdusa Goruk
echo $parseArray['entry']['author'][0]['name']['$t']; //Pijdusa Goruk

PHP has functions to work with JSON. What you are looking for is json_decode .

To get the desired key, simply navigate between the indexes of the array

$content = file_get_contents('myJson.json');

// Segundo argumento 'true' retorna um array associativo

$array = json_decode($content, true);
echo $array['entry']['author'][0]['name']['$t'];

Use the json_decode function and pass true on the second argument to turn the return into an array associative. Then call the key you want.

$arr = json_decode($json, true);
echo $arr['entry']['author'][0]['name']['$t'];
