I'm currently working with foraminifera fauna data for rebuilding the blend layer over the last 20ka. We did the reconstruction from the abundance of some species, which represent deeper or shallower mixing layer and built a curve (from a GAM analysis), which showed this variation.
Now we want to find temporal and spatial time patterns within these data. In the article "Late Quaternary coccolith records in the South China Sea and East Asian monsoon dynamics" (2013) - link - the authors used an EOF analysis with the same objective, however, they did with a statistical program called PAST, which does not have the EOF function, but this was done from a PCA.
I would like to know how this EOF analysis can be done from a PCA (what data to use and how to organize, for example) or how to perform the EOF analysis on the R from the spacetime (or clim.pact) package with the the same questions as the past, what data to use and how to organize them. "
If anyone can give a light!
