This semester in college I will be studying Software Development for the Web and studying the menu I will use JSP.
What caught my attention is the fact that the course comes with other themes like XHTML, Tomcat 6 and the use of an older version of JDK (version 5).
With what I know so far and after a quick search, we know HTML 5 exists, Tomcat is currently in version 8.5 and Java is heading for JDK 9.
As the menu is clearly not up to date (I'm more sorry for my classmates who are starting in the field than for me), I ask:
- Is learning JSP in 2017 still relevant?
- Is it something in the market that is evolving and in constant use or is it something I will learn to forget right away in six months?
- If the JSP is out of use, what alternatives do you use to bridge the gap left by it?
