Yes, it is possible since Node.js to run in backend . Of course there are some differences in the browser and server API, and this is more important than the language itself.
If you like and get along well with JS you can be a good one, you have facilities to use one language only. But often the solution may not be the most appropriate.
Particularly I'm going in the opposite direction, as there are strong criticisms of JavaScript. One of them is the proliferation of framewoks and tools.
I'd rather use C # in backend and now I'll also use it in frontend via Blazor .
Several languages are doing the same with WebAssembly . For me, JS does not have a future, but a lot of people have it.
My vision runs away from the current tide. And many very strong people in the area think the same. What matters is knowing the foundation. This thing of choosing a language and learning to program like this, solves part of the problem, there are a lot of people who get along in this way, but it is difficult to become such an excellent professional. I know a lot of people who even get known, have good jobs, even because they are able to communicate well and can sell themselves well with just this. But it's different from mastering programming, from being able to solve any problem, from being creative.
It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: the potential programmers are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration
-- Edsger W. Dijkstra
I would say this is true today for JS (not only, but the list is great). Although almost everyone I know who became professional in the area and started with BASIC has achieved some degree of excellence. In fact JS creates much worse vices and misunderstandings than BASIC did in poor minds.
Note that you understand that you are entering the area and already have a portfolio, before you know what to do. Yeah, it seems like it is now, then the person will complain that the area pays poorly. That is why in the past no one hired older people, today they prefer these, they are the people they have learned.
I hope I have been able to give a good direction, it was my intention, despite the critical nature of the message, even because today it is also missing for people to make more balanced and informed decisions.
