Is it possible to create domains with accents?

I suppose not, but why not? And do we have any predictions of this being accepted some day?

I'm rooting for the namecoin or any new DNS fashion catch soon!

Records in Brazil and some international ones already allow special characters. See this news from the Registro.br de 2005 :

  

The domain registration service will accept, as of 09/05, characters allowed in the Portuguese language, such as accented vowels and cedilla. This will allow you to register and access sites with addresses such as link .
