Are there any keyword rules on Google Play?

How do keywords work on Google Play?

Is there any way to enter keywords? Or does it use the App description?

In order to make your app appear at the top of Google Play searches, you should take advantage of Google Play's search and ranking algorithm - it's up to you to determine how high your app should look - and follow some good publishing practices to make your app more attractive to download, regardless of its position.

Here are some tips to take advantage of these two mechanisms:

Google Play search and ranking algorithm :

  • Place your main keyword in the app title: This could dramatically improve your position (from 80 to 100 points). There is also a recommendation to put the app name in the app icon and use the app name for your keyword, but I think it is not a good idea to have words in an icon.

  • Use up to 5 times your app's keywords in its description. In the Google Play Store keywords are searchable, so be sure to repeat them fairly often (but not more than 5x, as this will not make a difference and will overburden the app description).

  • Get good reviews

  • Have good application usage frequency

  • Own a large number of ratings

  • Own a good amount of app downloads

  • Have a good growth of downloads (increase of downloads over the last 30 days)

  • Having a few uninstalls (how many people have uninstalled your app)

  • Have good frequency of use

  • Get people to comment on your app in other places

Good publishing practices:

  • Have beautiful designs and screenshots to show potential users of your app what it's capable of doing.
  • Have a demo video / promo.
  • Have a simple and objective description, focusing on your main features and the differential of your application in relation to others.
