SQL query in PHP and date format

I have a function in PHP that interacts with my SQL Server. It looks like this:

It should bring a name and a total number of reservations. The search for the name works in a good way, but the date does not yet work. Since it's a site I took on from another developer, I do not know how the dates format of the $ a and $ ate variables are. I want to ensure that it is always in the YYYY-mm-dd format (2015-05-25, for example).

You can use Convert

DataPartida >= convert(datetime, '$de', 120)

The search will always return Ira in this format YYYY-mm-dd, using the function FORMAT_DATA()

I discovered the solution, it is the following (based on another page of the site, made by the previous developer of the same):

The dates $ and $ are transformed as follows, to have separate day, month, and year:

$deAux = explode("/",$de);
$ateAux = explode("/",$ate);

$diaDe  = $deAux[0];
$mesDe  = $deAux[1];
$anoDe  = $deAux[2];

$diaAte = $ateAux[0];
$mesAte = $ateAux[1];
$anoAte = $ateAux[2];

And then my function looked like this (pro SQL attention on the parts of the date filter):
