Has my site been cloned? [closed]

-1

A few months ago I was creating a project in php, a kind of virtual store, nothing too complex.

One day I came across a site that is relatively similar to mine, so the question came to me: Could it be a clone of my site?

After a few days of searching, I did not find a way to find out the truth. I wanted to help you, because I'm a beginner in programming, I bought an online course and based on the knowledge I learned I created the store.

It was a Neri course ... wanted to know how I can find out or confirm that my site was cloned. Can I legally sue the Site Admin?

Thank you for your sincerity, I do not intend to take action in this case, because I did something just for the sake of knowledge, but in the future when I make a decent website I need to have an idea of how to act in those hours.

Thanks for the help in advance.

The question is a bit subjective, but for my knowledge, you can "clone" at least the aspect of the site by changing some things, even because you have access to css , javascript and html , then just do php or whatever it is to make the page work. As for the legality of this, I can not answer you. It would be better to talk to an attorney who is knowledgeable in the subject, because even as far as laws regarding computers are concerned, much remains to be done, at least in Portugal.

Although the question is not about development, and difficult to answer in the absence of more detail, I will try to give an answer. First, if you created the store "based on the knowledge gained from an online course," I ask: How different is your site from what is described in the course? Is it possible that the author of the alleged clone was not simply following the same course?

Depending on the technologies involved, it is very likely that two sites with the same purpose will look similar. For example, two blogs that use wordpress and use a common theme will look similar. Two sites that use the same CMS system will look similar. Etc. To say that your site has been cloned only based on similarity is reckless, you need more concrete evidence.

Finally, it is worth remembering that everything that is exposed to the client (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, etc.) can be copied - legally or illegally. If it is worthwhile or not to legally sue who copied, then it is your decision. Consult a lawyer for more details. Personally, I would not worry about it - unless it was a blatant copy involving a huge amount of code that was of my own making (not legacy code, be it from open source projects or reference materials).
