The game was totally logical, it all depended on how many mines there were, once you had already uncovered an area it was just a matter of paying attention to the numbers, there were usually no more than 4 per 9 square area. the objective was to find the mines and discover all the empty spaces, by playing it for a couple of minutes you could learn the mechanics and then be entertained for hours afterwards!
