Linus Torvalds original creator of the Linux kernel, used Linux as his nickname, he didn't want to call the kernel Linux, if I remember correctly it was something like Freax.

It was his friend who uploaded the kernel to ftp, who renamed it to the name we know, Linus no longer wanted to change the name, it had become catchy, viral, so he left it as is and forgot about freax because linux was a better name.

Thanks for asking.

Linus Torvalds was the initial developer of the operating system kernel, hence the name. It all started as a university project, as the operating system he was using didn't live up to his expectations. So good old Linus decided he would write a better one, and boy, did he get it right!

Cordial regards

Well done!
