Well, because he didn't create the operating system entirely. As I recall Linux, the first version was built with Unix source code, which was the intellectual property of one company. The moment Torvalds tried to sell Linux, he would have been sued by the bucketload.
Linus Torvalds is in the technology Olympus for being one of the pioneers of free software and not-for-profit knowledge sharing. He has done more for the IT world than Gates and Zuckerberg combined.
